CrateHacks™: Modular Sneaker Wall

From Mudroom to Sneaker Display

What started as a simple idea to organize boots turned into a full-blown modular sneaker wall. Using the UbeCube™ system, we built a shoe storage setup that’s durable enough for work gear but clean enough to showcase a sneaker collection.

We used the UC01™ Lidless Crate, a collapsible, stackable crate that connects in every direction, as the core building block. Each crate acts as a cubby that’s strong, ventilated, and perfectly square for sneakers, boots, or bins. For the structure’s backbone, we linked the crates together with Snap-Fit Connectors creating a sturdy wall that locks solidly into place while staying fully modular.

How the Wall Was Built

The wall uses a mix of products arranged into three distinct tiers:

Bottom tier: A base layer of UC01™ Lidless Crates, left open without any shelves to create cubbies large enough for full-sized mud, snow, and cowboy boots.
Middle tiers: Outfitted with to create double layers for sneakers, trainers, and mid-sized boots. Some shelves were placed directly in the middle for storing classic sneakers, while others were installed on the top set of diamonds inside the UC01 Lidless crates to make room for hiking shoes and mid-sized boots, with just enough clearance above for smaller shoes like sandals or Converse.
Top tier: Built from UC02™ MOD Crates outfitted with Whiteboard MOD Panels, perfect for labeling sections like “Footwear Equip.” or “Training Gear.”

The result is a modular shoe wall that’s both functional and flexible. Every level serves a purpose, from rugged boot storage to clean sneaker display, all within a unified grid that keeps your gear easy to see and grab.

For New Builds: Start with Kickstands

If you’re looking to build a similar wall using current UbeCube products, start with the CrateCloset™ Kickstand. Each Kickstand comes as a complete, pre-configured module built from two UC01 crates, two CrateShelf Kits, two Snap-Fit Connectors, and four CrateHooks. It’s the same layout concept, just simplified for modern builds that use the lidded UC01 design.

Want to elevate the look? Swap in a Window MOD Panel to create a “window” into your display cubby. It’s a sleek way to showcase your favorite sneakers while keeping them protected from dust or scuffs.
